The goal is simple: the model watches a robot do a task (like opening a drawer) and then gives a <strong>progress score<\/strong> that tells how well the robot did. (<a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/news\/2026-01-roboreward-dataset-automate-robotic.html\">Tech Xplore<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The researchers say this can replace a lot of the repetitive \u201chuman grading\u201d that slows down real-world robot training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What makes the dataset \u201clarge-scale\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the paper, RoboReward is created from large real-robot datasets (including Open X\u2011Embodiment and RoboArena) and then expanded with \u201cnear-misses\u201d and realistic failures using a technique called <strong>counterfactual relabeling<\/strong>. That means they can take a successful robot video and generate new instructions that make it count as a failure or near-failure\u2014without filming brand-new footage.
