In other words, lifting weights or doing resistance exercises may be about much more than building bigger muscles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A New Study Focused on Older Women<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The article was based on a new study published in <strong>JAMA Network Open<\/strong>. Researchers looked at women aged <strong>63 to 99<\/strong> and studied whether muscular strength was linked to a lower risk of death over time (<a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jamanetworkopen\/fullarticle\/2845052\">JAMA Network Open<\/a>). The study included women from the <strong>Women\u2019s Health Initiative<\/strong>, and researchers measured things like grip strength, lower-body strength, physical activity, and sedentary time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stronger Muscles Were Linked to Better Survival<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the most important findings was that stronger women were more likely to live longer, even after researchers considered overall activity levels, sedentary behavior, walking speed, and inflammation (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eatingwell.com\/strength-training-for-longevity-study-11920575\">EatingWell<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jamanetworkopen\/fullarticle\/2845052\">JAMA Network Open<\/a>). That study looked at a different group and a different measure, but it points in the same direction: strength training may support healthy aging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Strength Training Longevity Has Big Benefits<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The big takeaway is not that everyone needs to become a bodybuilder. It is that <strong>strength training longevity<\/strong> can be a simple, practical, and realistic idea for busy adults. Building muscle may help support balance, independence, bone health, and long-term survival.
