The <strong>Taiwan Institute of Economic Research<\/strong>, often called <strong>TIER<\/strong>, now expects Taiwan\u2019s GDP to grow <strong>7.56%<\/strong> in 2026. That is a big jump from its January forecast and shows how strongly the global AI boom is helping Taiwan\u2019s economy. When companies build AI tools, data centers, cloud systems, and advanced electronics, they need high-end chips and information technology products. Taiwan\u2019s semiconductor and ICT suppliers are getting more orders, and many are spending more money to expand production. Imports are also expected to rise <strong>21.22%<\/strong>, compared with the previous forecast of <strong>10.64%<\/strong>. In business terms, that means Taiwan is not only selling more to the world, but also buying more materials, machines, and parts to keep production moving. TaiwanPlus also reported that the think tank nearly doubled its 2026 GDP growth forecast because of soaring AI demand and investment across the supply chain. In other words, AI is not just a tech story. For Taiwan, it is an economic growth story. TIER raised its forecast for private investment growth to <strong>4.42%<\/strong>, up by <strong>1.54 percentage points<\/strong> from its earlier estimate. It also raised its forecast for private consumption growth to <strong>2.60%<\/strong>, slightly higher than the previous <strong>2.50%<\/strong> forecast. That suggests stronger business activity may also help normal consumers, not just large technology companies. Taiwan News also reported that global commodity prices could increase import costs and create inflation pressure, although the pressure still appears manageable. So yes, the growth forecast looks strong\u2014but the economy is not sailing on perfectly calm water.
