According to a <strong>June 11, 2026 Yonhap News Agency report<\/strong>, exports jumped about <strong>86%<\/strong> from a year earlier during the first 10 days of the month. Outbound shipments reached about <strong>$28.6 billion<\/strong>, compared with <strong>$15.4 billion<\/strong> during the same period last year. That set a new record for any 10-day export period, beating the previous record of <strong>$25.2 billion<\/strong> from April 2026. (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.yna.co.kr\/view\/AEN20260611002451320\">Yonhap News Agency<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Korea Exports Jump 86 Percent<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The biggest driver was semiconductors. Korea\u2019s chip exports more than tripled to about <strong>$11 billion<\/strong>, helped by strong global demand connected to artificial intelligence. In simple business English, Korea is riding the AI wave. Companies around the world need more advanced chips for AI servers, data centers, and new technology products. That demand has been very good news for Korean chipmakers and for Korea\u2019s export numbers. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.koreatimes.co.kr\/economy\/20260611\/exports-up-86-during-first-10-days-of-june\">Korea Times<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Numbers Behind the Export Boom<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Korea Customs Service data showed that exports rose <strong>85.9%<\/strong> year-on-year during the June 1\u201310 period. Imports also increased, rising <strong>35.6%<\/strong> to about <strong>$23.4 billion<\/strong>. Even with higher imports, Korea recorded a trade surplus of about <strong>$5.3 billion<\/strong>. That means Korea sold more goods overseas than it bought from other countries during that period. For a trade-focused economy like Korea, that is a strong signal. Business Korea reported that semiconductor exports rose <strong>205.8%<\/strong> from a year earlier to about <strong>$11.1 billion<\/strong>. Chips made up <strong>38.7%<\/strong> of total exports during the first 10 days of June. That is a big share. To put it simply, when chips do well, Korea\u2019s export numbers can look very strong. It is a little like a baseball team with one superstar player carrying the scoreboard\u2014except this player is made of silicon and lives inside servers. Reports based on Korea Customs Service data showed that exports of <strong>petroleum products<\/strong> rose <strong>68.7%<\/strong>, <strong>passenger cars<\/strong> rose <strong>25.4%<\/strong>, <strong>ships<\/strong> increased <strong>52.0%<\/strong>, and <strong>steel products<\/strong> gained <strong>39.1%<\/strong>. Exports of <strong>computer peripherals<\/strong> also surged, helped by demand for AI-related equipment. This shows that Korea\u2019s early-June export performance was broad, even though semiconductors clearly led the way.
